Sept. 22 - Oct. 1, 2026 off to St Thomas with the Hicks kids!

Home for our next week or so! 


Time to hit the road---or air--- again!  The Hicks kids were heading to St Thomas, so I joined them.  It was Layla's first time to snorkel other than in the pool.  We were all anxious to see how she did.  She did SUPER!!!!  As afraid as she is of bugs, I was afraid the fish would scare her.  But she was excited and would go back and forth between me and Angie and Josh and point out everything---even the really large barracuda chilling out under an anchored boat.  Considering how long Angie and I like to snorkel, Layla really hung with us throughout most of it---even in really deep, choppy water.  Then she would want to go back by shore and play in the water she could stand in.  We even went out to lunch or/and dinner every day.  They had to leave on Sunday the 27th, but I figured I might as well stay a few extra days and didn't come back until Oct. 1st.  When the 27th rolled around, I was a little sorry I extended my stay, but after it was all said and done, I had a good time by myself, too.

It was my first flight in over 7 years.  Boy how airlines have changed!  Now there's free wi-fi on board.  Personal tvs on the back of the airplane seats.  Now there are no frills flights with no air miles, no carry on, no refunds.. .  I guess the war in Iran is affecting airline fares (gas prices).  Our fares (which were the next level up from no frills), were still over $700 @.  But it sure was nice being out there again!

2026-9-22 travel day to St. Thomas

 Since we had a relatively early flight (9:57am), I spent the night at the kids' house so we could save about 40 minutes travel time bright and early.  It's about an hour to the airport from the kids' house, so figured that was long enough of a car ride to start our travel day.  But the drive went well.  Josh parked in an off site parking lot with free shuttle to the airport,  That went really well, too---the shuttle basically saw us parking and drove right over and picked us up.  Within minutes, we were being dropped off at the doors to the Delta counters,   Since the kids had a checked bag, we had to wait a few minutes to check in their bag.  I managed carry on---which we were able to gate check. The gate was full.  Plane was almost full.  But I actually had an open seat next to me.      Layla noticed a rainbow outside the gate windows.  Always reminds me of Mom wishing me good times.  Boarding was on time...

2026-10-1 time to go home

 Well, it was time to head home.  Had to check out by 10 and my flight wasn't until abut 2:30, so I had some time to kill.  Ended up going to the Margaritaville restaurant for breakfast. I have no complaints about the restaurant.  It's nicely decorated and the food has been very good.  I ended up getting an omelet with peppers, onions and cheese.  It was very good, but very large.  Too bad I didn't gt it a few days earlier.  Instead I had to throw half of it away.  about noon I told them I was ready for a taxi to the airport.  Fare for one to the airport is $34.  He did manage to find 4 people wanting to go to Megan's, so I got an extra ride.   They're in the process of building this at Megan's.  Restrooms?  Shop?  Whatever it is it's huge.  Bye Megan's.  I'm glad we made the decision to go there several days ago. views as he was continuing to the airport the marina in Charlotte Amalie   ...

2026-9-26 Mountain Top, Secret Beach, and Duffy's Love Shack

Today started out a little differently.  Instead of heading straight to snorkel, we headed to a huge gift shop at the top of a mountain---cleverly named---Mountain Top.  It was another interesting ride up to the top of the mountain.  But there were some areas where the views down were pretty neat.  We finally reached the top after about 30 minutes or so.  Angie dropped Layla and me off while she and Josh went to park. I took the oppurtunity to take some pictures of Layla with the resident pirates. It's also known as the home of the banana daiquiri.  It's also known as a huge tourist excursion for cruise passengers.  Good thing, there were no cruises in town today. Layla even found some kid pirates Views from the patio were really great, too.  This is the famous Megan's Beach Layla with her banana daiquiri (ok, not really, but they make a great banana smoothie, too!)
