2026-10-13 TSA pre-approved!

 Now that I hope to be traveling a lot, I decided to get the TSA pre-approval status.  So on Sunday, I filled out the forms online and made an appt to go for my "interview" today.  It said to get there early, so I did.  Then waited for the person who does the interview to get there.  After about 30 minutes, he finally arrived.  When he called me back to the "room", the machine that records my passport and uploads it to TSA wouldn't work.  He shut it off and restarted it about 3 times.  After about 30 minutes, I decided it was time to go somewhere else.  I knew there was one the other direction from our house (in Hiram) so decided to drive the 30 minutes or so to there.  My phone's google maps and car's Navigator had me really confused.  I kept telling me I was there, but I knew I wasn't.  Finally went in to a store and asked if they knew where it was.  He told me to go to the next street and turn left and I'll see it.  So I did.  Even parked the car and walked the strip mall but didn't see it.  Decided to go to the next corner and go left.  There it was!  Got out and tried to open the door.  It was locked even though the hours on the window said it was open.  By now I was feeling pretty frustrated---until a gal pulled up next to my car and asked if she could help me.  I told her I was trying to get my TSA  pre-approval.  She asked if I had an appt.  I told her I did, at the other place, but their machine wasn't working.  She let me in and asked for my passport.  Had me sign in while she got their tablet started.  About 5 minutes later it was all done and I was on my way back out of there.  It was something like $80, but is good for 5 years.  Hopefully it'll be processed by this weekend for my flight to FLL.

update---got my number on Thursday!  Applied it to my Delta account and hope to have it on my boarding pass tomorrow for my flight on Sat.

2026-9-22 travel day to St. Thomas

 Since we had a relatively early flight (9:57am), I spent the night at the kids' house so we could save about 40 minutes travel time bright and early.  It's about an hour to the airport from the kids' house, so figured that was long enough of a car ride to start our travel day.  But the drive went well.  Josh parked in an off site parking lot with free shuttle to the airport,  That went really well, too---the shuttle basically saw us parking and drove right over and picked us up.  Within minutes, we were being dropped off at the doors to the Delta counters,   Since the kids had a checked bag, we had to wait a few minutes to check in their bag.  I managed carry on---which we were able to gate check. The gate was full.  Plane was almost full.  But I actually had an open seat next to me.      Layla noticed a rainbow outside the gate windows.  Always reminds me of Mom wishing me good times.  Boarding was on time...

2026-10-1 time to go home

 Well, it was time to head home.  Had to check out by 10 and my flight wasn't until abut 2:30, so I had some time to kill.  Ended up going to the Margaritaville restaurant for breakfast. I have no complaints about the restaurant.  It's nicely decorated and the food has been very good.  I ended up getting an omelet with peppers, onions and cheese.  It was very good, but very large.  Too bad I didn't gt it a few days earlier.  Instead I had to throw half of it away.  about noon I told them I was ready for a taxi to the airport.  Fare for one to the airport is $34.  He did manage to find 4 people wanting to go to Megan's, so I got an extra ride.   They're in the process of building this at Megan's.  Restrooms?  Shop?  Whatever it is it's huge.  Bye Megan's.  I'm glad we made the decision to go there several days ago. views as he was continuing to the airport the marina in Charlotte Amalie   ...

2026-9-26 Mountain Top, Secret Beach, and Duffy's Love Shack

Today started out a little differently.  Instead of heading straight to snorkel, we headed to a huge gift shop at the top of a mountain---cleverly named---Mountain Top.  It was another interesting ride up to the top of the mountain.  But there were some areas where the views down were pretty neat.  We finally reached the top after about 30 minutes or so.  Angie dropped Layla and me off while she and Josh went to park. I took the oppurtunity to take some pictures of Layla with the resident pirates. It's also known as the home of the banana daiquiri.  It's also known as a huge tourist excursion for cruise passengers.  Good thing, there were no cruises in town today. Layla even found some kid pirates Views from the patio were really great, too.  This is the famous Megan's Beach Layla with her banana daiquiri (ok, not really, but they make a great banana smoothie, too!)
